Gaper’s Block is a really great web publication in and about Chicago, Ill. In 2009 the site received grant funding to expand coverage of under-reported stories and under-served communities, for which I was hired. Here’s some long form stuff (1, 2, 3) and some blog posts (1, 2, 3).
Around the same time I wrote for a culture and nightlife magazine called Time Out Chicago. I was very excited about the position but soon realized I liked drinking in bars more than writing about them, that the city desk and the sociopolitical beats were far more fun. Here are some articles and blog posts I penned for them. (1, 2, 3, 4)
Working in the non-profit sector, I’ve tried to keep up some writing and content creation. It’s been more advocacy than traditional journalism, but here’s some blogging for change.org (1, 2, 3, 4) and from an ongoing independent project I’m calling UnhousedMedia.
Once upon what seems like a very long time ago I created my first blog, an aggregator and curator of all things international relations in the news, occasionally humorous. My friends loved it. It didn’t last long.
